1. Walk along the ocean front promenade: You will pass the President’s house, picturesque European and modern architecture, a city garden, Mini Venice, the Carpet Museum and a view of the city landscape with the famous Flame Towers in perfect sight. The walk is a little under 2 miles.

2. Go to Yanar Dag and the Fire Temple.

3. Travel to Gobustan to see ancient petroglyphs. (did not get the chance to do)
4. Visit the Carpet Museum. Azerbaijan is known for their beautiful carpets which are treated like artwork. At the museum you learn about the history of carpet weaving and the eccentricities from each region. The building the Carpet Museum resides in is designed to look like a rolled-up carpet.
5. Browse through the Old City. As you wonder through the Old City you can browse various shops, grab a snack or do the walking tour. Make sure to negotiate prices with the shopkeepers.
6. Climb the Maiden’s Tower. Inside the tower you walk up about 8 levels of old stone stairs to a view point. On each level are small exhibits are the history and importance of the building.

7. Have tea at Cay Bagi. This is a wonderful restaurant/hookah bar with a view of Maiden’s Tower in the heart of the Old City. It is beautifully decorated with comforts of modern design and serves tea. If you are not into hookah it is a great place to grab lunch before most of the hookah goers come in.
8. Ride the funicular. You can either ride or climb the stairs up the funicular which leads to a beautiful view point of the city.

9. Visit Heydar Aliyev Museum. It’s a modern art museum that also houses historical and cultural exhibits about Azerbaijan. If you are not into modern art, it is still worth it to see just the outside to view the magnificent architecture.
